DAP DynaGrip Advanced Subfloor Adhesive

We are in a time with engineered woods and sheathing, and now adhesives that foam and expand. Is there still a market for tube adhesives?

Using Adhesives on the Job Site

The use of a strong adhesive is critical too many practices on a residential construction site. I have for one used in many ways your average user would not think to do or would just go with and older fastener style method that is a temporary at best.

Some of these methods include:

  • gluing wood to steel
  • using its adhesion to hold walls on concrete where there is in floor heating wires and tubing are present
  • glueing down floor sheathing in a newly constructed home

DAP DynaGrip Adhesive

DAP has just released a expansion to their already widely known product line up called DynaGrip adhesives. The DynaGrip line up consist of a large variety of new adhesives from All Purpose to DAP DynaGrip Advanced Subfloor Adhesive and more job specific types like drywall, foam board and even tub surround.

DAP DynaGrip Advance Subfloor Adhesive

The DAP DynaGrip Advance Subfloor Adhesive can be used for adhering wood to all types of material including:

  • Treated wood
  • Steel
  • Concrete

It was designed to deliver a longer, stronger bond, which is very important for those of us who are working out in the elements year round to be able to rely on a product that is easy to dispense in any condition. It also is easy to gun down to 0°F, which is a big selling feature to me.

Whether it be a hot summer day, or a frigid cold winter day. Those that have worked in these conditions know that most adhesives will not only not stick to the surface of a wet material, it will actually slide right off of the material.

DAP Latex Formula

The DynaGrip Advanced Subfloor is made of a latex formula that which mean it is easier to remove from your hands and tools. Most adhesives are more stubborn and hard to remove and are usually just left alone until it works itself off. I was pleased to see how well DynaGrip cleans up.

Using the DAP’s DynaGrip Advanced Subfloor Adhesive

While using the DynaGrip Advanced Subfloor for the first time I noticed how easy it was to apply to the material. The 10.3 FL OZ, tube was easily dispensed with a standard caulking gun. I noticed there was a different consistency and color to the DAP formula. I was extremely pleased to say that there wasn’t a heavy odor that you get from a lot of adhesives on the market. DAP stats that this product is VOC compliant.

Preventing Future Floor Squeaks

I used the DynaGrip Subfloor Adhesive on my jobsite to construct and assemble a subfloor on a custom home we are framing. This floor system was made of engineered floor joist and standard conventional lumber. I used the DynaGrip Advanced Subfloor Adhesive to adhere all of the sheathing and used a small amount in the bottom of every joist hanger to prevent floor squeaks in the future.

Fast Cure Time

One thing I noticed is that there was less time waiting for curing. The adhesive went straight to work as applying. I like this a lot when choosing a adhesive. It allows us to build quicker and stronger.  Some adhesives are so oily you will still get movement hours after applying it.

Final Impression

The Dap DynaGrip Advanced Subfloor adhesive is perfect for framers, general contractors, renovators. The key selling points for me were the low odor and quick cure times. Having an product that I can use indoor or on the jobsite with the same end result is essential for a successful build.

You can find DynaGrip products available at your local lumber yard or home improvement retailer. For more information, visit www.dap.com.
