A couple weeks ago, we attended the first all tools media event put on by The Home Depot. Whenever we go to one of these events we feverishly post to our various social media feeds so that you all can follow in near realtime. If you were unable to follow, here’s a summary article of all of our postings from the event.

What was great about The Home Depot PROspective event over some of the others we’ve been to is The Home Depot brought in all of their major tool vendors together under one roof. Milwaukee, Bosch, Makita, Diablo, Ridgid, Ryobi, Dewalt, Paslode, Dremel, Husky, and some automotive product brands were all there. Some highlights were the new abrasives from Diablo, new modules for Ryobi GDO, Dewalt’s Flexvolt, updated nailers from Paslode, and the cordless rear handled circular saw from Makita. Many other cool tools were there too, check them out below.

Of course the event was about the tools but one of our greatest takeaways is how passionate Home Depot employees are about their work and enabling others to build and fix their homes. No question those guys all bleed orange. This fervor doesn’t end at their customers though. The Home Depot is very passionate and active in local communities. At the event we got to help out a the local furniture bank assembling and building furniture for those with little or no furniture in their homes. It was probably my favorite part of the whole event.

The folks at Diablo recently announced several new products at STAFDA 2014. Diablo continues to offer innovative cutting solutions for a wide range of applications and the latest products are sure to impress end users. Diablo High Performance Hole Saws

Diablo introduced an entire new line of high performance hole saws including Snap-Lock quick change mandrel system.

Ultimate Flooring Saw Blades – PERGO Blades

Prefinished flooring has taken over the flooring industry and the shear volume of installations has created a huge need in the cutting of wood flooring. Today’s prefinished flooring materials are most often coated with clear coatings that contain aluminum oxide. Aluminum oxide creates an extremely hard and durable finish but the result is pure torture for saw blades used for flooring installation. Diablo has designed an entire line (three blade sizes) of blades specifically for laminate and other hard wood flooring products.

Next Generation Carbide-Tipped Recip Blades for Nail Embedded Wood

Reciprocating blades continue to develop for improved durability, toughness, and speed. Diablo’s next generation carbide-tipped blades are designed specifically for nail embedded wood. To demonstrate how tough these new blades really are we were allowed to test them with an extreme mock-up that included 2×12’s with concrete nails embedded in the ends. The new blades easily cut through the nails with ease compared to other “metal” blades on the market that struggled to keep up.

Steel Demon Carbide-Tipped Reciprocating Blades

We’ve recently seen quite an explosion on the cordless bandsaw line so I was quite intrigued by this new blade from Diablo. The new Steel Demon Carbide-Tipped Blades for Extreme Thick Metal Cutting are designed for cutting thick metal products like cast-iron, stainless steel, structural carbon steel, and even high-strength alloys being used in the automotive industry. Mechanical trades can now easily cut heavy metal pipe without the need for a specialty tool. These new blades won’t eliminate the need for bandsaws but they will surely come in handy in many situations.

Of bigger interest to me was how well these new blades cut high-strength alloys like boron steel that’s being used in new automobiles. Some of the new steels being used in new cars are so tough that the Jaws-of-Life can’t always cut them. These new blades make quick work of the high strength steel giving first responders another option for extricating victims from car crashes.

Diablo’s Media Event at STAFDA Show

On Tuesday November 12th Diablo showcased their latest innovations in abrasives, and reciprocating blades at STAFDA’s annual convention where hundreds of vendors get a chance to showcase their  newest products, offer generous terms to distributors, and often give consumers, distributors, and journalists a sneak peak of upcoming innovations.

We at Tool Box Buzz had the opportunity to see Diablo’s newest products in action and even get to try our hand with these new blades. Plus Diablo demonstrated the impressive capability of their next generation recripocating blades that we are excited to cover when they are released. For now let’s take a look at their newest offerings available now.

NEW 5-inch Random Orbital Sander Pad

Diablo has advanced their abrasives with a ceramic aggregate that is designed to remove material faster and prolong the life of each sanding pad. Additionally the design of the pads dust control has been modified to ensure effective dust removal without over thinking applying a new pad.

NEW Demolition Reciprocating Saw Blades

Diablo is one of the only tool/accessory company that also makes its own carbide allowing Diablo to create custom carbide solutions for specific applications. And when it comes to carbide this material is almost never found on a reciprocating blades, until now. Diablo’s newest demolition blade, the Demo Demon, features carbide which can quickly cut through hardened material imbedded in wood. Additionally, Diablo has a unique Tooth Per Inch (TPI) configuration that allows the operator to start a cut cleanly with a high TPI base and still quickly saw through material with a low TPI tip.

NEW Metal Cutting Reciprocating Saw Blades

Diablo also showcased their new metal cutting Steel Demon Blade which features a strip of solid carbide specifically designed for cutting stainless steel. This blade was very aggressive and very fast. The speed and ease of cut these new reciprocating blades provide users makes the often awkward cuts you have to make with a reciprocating saw much safer and puts less stress on you and your crew when getting the job done.
